The video allowed us to show the aural, visual, spatial, and gestural modes. Using the aural mode and being able to hear Ma Mary’s voice added character to the story. Henrietta was a crucial part of our interview and relaying the message of the story. We had a language barrier when speaking with Ma Mary. Additionally, we included a traditional Liberian song in the beginning of the video to add a part of Ma Mary’s culture to her story.
Visual / Aural Modes
The visual part of our video was the most appealing and important to relaying the story. The visuals allow the audience to see Ma Mary’s expression when telling parts of her story. The gestures she made emphasized the way she felt or experienced her struggle. After watching other examples of videos my group and i decided these were the most captivating and relevant scenes to include.
