"I am From"
A poem by Nikki Boutsikoudis
I am from a dollhouse, cookie cutter like everyone else.
Surrounded by friends and peers just like myself.
I am from a cozy neighborhood in the outskirts of town accustomed to the life in a city.
I call Stamford my birthplace and Bristol my home. I am
I am soft, friendly and yellow as the teddy bear that sat in the same spot in my room growing up.
I am from a loud, passionate and inspiring chatter, showing me openness and assurance in peoples words.
I am from a school of fish, always staying together protecting and guiding one another.
I am from the fresh breeze of the water that carries me from home to home.
I am from a purple rose petal, needing security to the flower to keep from flying.
The rose petal that symbolizes feeling and also lust.
I am from the stem, whose spikes give me security to never let my guard down, but also, a feature that acknowledges that I am here to the people in my garden.
I am from “this is YOUR future”, a saying worn-out by my family who constantly stresses the importance of success.
I am from a “never regret what once made you happy” generation, appreciating every mistake ive made for the lesson I have learned.
I am from an island learning the ways to travel to land.
I am from those moments a person just finding their own way along side others.
